Director of Marketing and Communications

The Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists is the national voluntary organization of pharmacists committed to patient care through the advancement of safe, effective medication use in hospitals and other collaborative healthcare settings. CSHP supports its 3,070 members and individual supporters through advocacy, education, information sharing, promotion of best practices, facilitation of research, and recognition of excellence.

CSHP is seeking a dynamic and experienced marketing leader to create and lead a marketing and communications function within the 16-member National Office. You will initiate an integrated marketing effort to establish CSHP’s value proposition, identity, and brand—all of which will advance and substantially increase CSHP’s membership and the impact of its portfolio of programs. Working with our professional practice team and member volunteer leaders, you will lead the messaging and mobilization of CSHP’s advocacy and be an integral part in developing new revenue generating programs/services.

As the successful candidate, you will have a demonstrated record of achieving double-digit membership increases, increasing uptake of programs and services, and growing your organization’s profile and influence. You will have experience in a national not-for-profit organization, ideally a professional association.

 Reporting to the CEO, and in collaboration with the rest of the leadership team, the Director will develop, implement, and evaluate strategic marketing and communications plans while proactively ensuring that the day-to-day operations are well-managed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Driving double-digit growth in CSHP membership through a strategic, multi-channel marketing program which includes market analysis and segmentation, fee modeling, product pricing, recruitment campaigns, retention strategies, incentives, member service additions, etc.

  • Defining the member experience, ensuring appropriate CSHP-member interface at all stages in the relationship, conducting member and public surveys and consultations.
  • Planning and executing marketing campaigns for existing and new CSHP products, services and programs, such as the annual Professional Practice Conference, Pharmacy Specialty Networks, the Canadian Journal of Hospital Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy in Canada Survey, etc.
  • Leading the development and execution of digital strategy via multiple platforms (email, data management, content management, customer relationship, etc.) and multi devices (responsive web / IOS and Android mobile / app / social media); and preparing financial projections and business cases which identify the resource, technology and investment requirements to deliver this strategy.
  • Building sponsor/partner relations and seeking out and assessing partnership proposals from affiliated organizations and commercial enterprises to improve revenues and external reach.
  • Marketing and assisting in developing CSHP revenue-generating programs.
  • Managing CSHP’s brand and corporate identity.
  • Managing the website and developing standards, systems and best practices to optimize workflow for content creation, distribution, maintenance, content retrieval and content repurposing.
  • Overseeing CSHP’s internal and external communications systems and vehicles including the e-Bulletin, e-Newsbrief, etc.
  • Leading knowledge mobilization campaigns for legislative, policy and perception change.
  • Establishing a media relations capacity within CSHP to advance programs, events, positions, advocacy and patient awareness of hospital pharmacists.
  • Carrying out administrative functions such as department work plans, budget preparation and management, and reporting.
  • Manage a small team of staff and contractors, setting objectives and mentoring staff to achieve their potential.
  • Partnering with other staff, board members and volunteers to create a shared sense of responsibility for marketing and organizational effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • You have worked in a national not-for-profit organization, ideally a professional association.
  • You have a proven track record of planning and executing a successful membership marketing growth strategy.
  • You are a self-directed, innovative thinker with a demonstrated ability to translate strategic thinking into action plans.
  • You are politically astute and have experience working with non-profit boards and volunteers.
  • You have experience supervising staff and managing outside vendors/contractors.
  • You are extremely organized and have a knack for developing effective work-back schedules.
  • You enjoy working and create a positive and fun climate for getting things done.
  • You are energetic, creative, self-reliant and a good problem solver.
  • You have exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

As the ideal candidate, you have post-secondary education in a field that relates to marketing, communications and/or business administration and at least 7-10 years of relevant, progressive experience. You possess the expertise necessary to ensure marketing initiatives are strategic, well-planned, well-executed and completed on-time and on-budget. Your English language skills are exceptional and the ability to communicate in French is a strong asset.
