The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH - http://www.wfh.org) is an international not-for-profit organization that provides global leadership to improve and sustain care for people with inherited bleeding disorders, including hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, rare factor deficiencies, and inherited platelet disorders. Team Lead (worldwide) ;  temporary (12 mts – extension possible)

 

The WFH is currently seeking an exceptionally experienced, and results-oriented self-starter as Head of Regional Development (min. 12 mts, extension possible) to oversee the operations of the department and develop & implement annual regional operational workplans of the WFH 7 programmatic regions – Africa, South America, Central America & Caribbean, South Asia & East Asia, Southeast Asia and Western Pacific, Europe and Middle East.

Reporting to the Director of Regional Development and, by interim, the WFH Medical Director & Director of Humanitarian Aid, the Head, Regional Development (temporary) supervises a team of professional staff (n= 9) at both headquarters and in-region (7 world-wide) as well as a pool of engaged volunteers.

He/She implements annual regional operational workplans that include ongoing country development and new regional initiatives in the WFH programmatic regions & develops and monitors an overall budget covering expenses for necessary staff and regional development programs costs to support local organizations and fulfill the WFH mission and regionally-shared goals.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES –

  • Overall responsibility for the daily operations of the Regional Development department.
  • Develops and coordinates with each Regional Manager yearly plans for their region.
  • Leads a team of highly professional and qualified staff (n=9) and as required, mobilizes an expansive international volunteer corps to deliver worldwide services to WFH members.

 

  • Under the guidance of the Director and in close collaboration with the Director, Programs & Education, ensures effective implementation, monitoring and reporting on various WFH country development programs and regional capacity-building initiatives, as well as NMO accreditation. 
  • Ensures the Regional Development department’s contribution to cross-departmental projects & initiatives with various departments, including Programs & Education, Humanitarian Aid, Research & Public Policy, Communications and Marketing, others.

 

  • Accountable for the financial management of the department: with the Director, the CEO, and the Director, Finance & Administration, develops an annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors.  Monitors revenue and expenses and produces quarterly and annual reports, tracks organizational performance against strategic, budgetary, and annual plan targets.

 

  • Under the guidance of the Director and in compliance with WFH policies, is responsible for ongoing Regional Development staff matters, including the hiring, training and guidance of staff members, the development of annual performance objectives and the assessment of team outputs.

 

  • Coordinates the functioning of Regional Development committees, as well as of other volunteers. Ensures that all committees relevant to the department operate efficiently.

 

  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities consistent with the Head level as assigned or requested by the Director.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS –

 

  • University degree in international development, public health, political studies, social sciences, education, or related field
  • Eight (8) years (minimum) of relevant work experience in non-profit international development organizations - healthcare sector preferred - leading, monitoring and evaluating regional development; additional 3 years in a senior management position as functional team lead, or equivalent experience

 

  • Excellent understanding of international development programs: a global geographic perspective, with specific sensitivity to current and emerging healthcare issues and international development
  • Proven successful experience in regional healthcare development programs and implementation in one or more emerging countries
  • Demonstrable experience in program development, management, and monitoring & evaluation

 

  • Strong financial planning and budget management experience and skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (primary language of work); working knowledge of French and Spanish preferred; other international language/s - an asset

 

  • Availability and flexibility to undertake regular travel within all WFH world regions and at key international gatherings (30 – 40% travel time expected)
  • Legally entitled to live and work in Quebec, Canada

 

Salary will be commensurate with background and experience.
