The Organization

Founded more than a century ago, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has a remarkable team of more than 11,000 volunteers and staff across Canada in over 330 communities and provides vital services and direct support to more than 1.3 million Canadians.  As the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health, CMHA is the only community-based association in Canada that addresses all aspects of mental health and mental illness, shaping the changing attitudes towards mental health and mental illness and promoting the mental health of all. CMHA accomplishes this mission through influencing policy, education and research as well as building awareness amongst a range of stakeholders including government, the public and partner organizations.

CMHA National has a transformative agenda, supported by the members of the Association, through the 87 CMHA Divisions, Regions and Branches in over 300 communities across Canada. This transformation will be achieved in collaboration with 11 Provincial and Territorial Executive Directors, and staff and volunteers in over 330 CMHA locations involved in public education, advocacy, and community-based service delivery representing annual spending of over $400M. The National Office has an annual operating budget of just under $7M.

The Position

CMHA is seeking an exceptional leader for the role of National Chief Executive Officer (CEO).  In this national leadership role, you will be a strong voice and key spokesperson for mental health wellness and have the mandate to lead a dynamic organization to leverage its nation-wide expertise, capacity and dedication to address the mental health and mental illness needs and challenges of Canadians.  Responsible to the Board of Directors, through the Board Chair, and together with provincial and territorial divisions and teams, the CEO will provide vision, leadership and influence to transform mental health policy and services across Canada.

Experience:

As a national leader in mental health, the successful candidate ideally will have experience in the mental health and/or addictions fields with extensive senior leadership and management experience in strategic planning, public policy, government relations, advocacy, change management, strategic communications, branding, education, research, and partnership development.  As the key spokesperson for CMHA across Canada, you will be a highly skilled and effective communicator.  The ability to speak French is an asset.
