Chief Executive Officer

Established in 1994, the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board (NDHCB) acts in the public interest to ensure high quality standards for Dental Hygienists in Canada by providing a reliable testing mechanism for dental hygiene competencies to support Canadian regulatory bodies, and in accordance with the highest standards of patient care. The NDHCB is the agency responsible for the development, administration, scoring and reporting of results of the National Dental Hygiene Certification Exam (NDHCE) on behalf of all Canadian provincial and territorial Dental Hygiene Regulators (except Quebec). Based on successful completion of the Exam – a written examination to assess a candidate’s readiness for entry-to-practice per nationally established practice and education standards (for both new graduates of Canadian Dental hygiene programs and internationally trained DH professionals) - the Board issues the official Certification Certificate. The NDHCE has been set to determine that successful candidates have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes and judgements of dental hygiene expected of a safe, competent, entry-level practitioner.

Chief Executive Officer

The NDHCB is searching for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) that can continue to meet the current operational and strategic needs of the organization and has the capacity and skills to grow the organization to meet new and expanding roles and services.

Reporting to and collaborating with the President of an engaged Board of Governors, we are seeking an experienced, progressive and dynamic individual to lead this respected organization. The CEO is responsible and accountable for the organization’s overall performance through the development (with the Board) and implementation of the strategic plan and achievement of corporate goals.  The Board will look to the CEO for sound business and strategic direction, effective governance support and strong organizational performance.  They will develop strong relationships with provincial dental hygiene regulatory bodies  as well as key stakeholders and facilitate the delivery of solid and strong examination mechanisms.

The ideal candidate will have successfully led people, strategy and change in a national, multi-stakeholder environment.  They will have demonstrated abilities in collaborating and building relationships with multiple external stakeholders and partners, building consensus, demonstrating innovation in their thinking and approach, and in motivating people by fostering engagement and empowerment.   This role should appeal to candidates with a successful track record in proactive management, and with experience working in a senior leadership role in the not-for-profit or national association/NGO sector, ideally related to healthcare. Experience in accreditation, working with health care regulators, working with a policy governance Board and testing/examination standards would also be valuable assets, as would a CAE designation. The NDHCB desires a leader who possesses excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills and will be an effective and professional communicator in all respects, operating collegially and collaboratively at all levels and constituencies across the country.  Proficiency in both official languages is desirable.
