Note to Applicants: Please refer to “For More Information” for application instructions.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Vancouver Island is seeking an inspiring and engaging new leader. With 15 types of programs serving over 1000 children, youth and families every year in 13 club locations across mid-Vancouver Island, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Vancouver Island is the Island's largest childcare provider and is trusted by more families than any other provider.

With a strong community reputation and national brand, excellent community relationships, significant partnerships with leading Indigenous organizations, and a completed accreditation application, the clubs are poised for further excellence. Having grown substantially over the past few years, they are now a $5 million organization with significant potential to grow further. The new Executive Director will partner with the Board on the development of a new strategic plan to both sustainably enhance this foundation of excellence and ensure a motivated and engaged staff group.  Paramount among our growth opportunities are enhancing and strengthening our community partnerships as well as our teen programs.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors and ideally working from our Nanaimo office, the Executive Director will assume leadership of this crucial and complex organization, providing both visionary leadership and exceptional management to a diverse and extremely passionate group of 100 staff. Other key responsibilities include community relationships, resource development and marketing.

ABOUT THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF CENTRAL VANCOUVER ISLAND

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Vancouver Island provides experiential learning environments that inspire children, youth and families of diverse abilities to acquire and develop the critical cognitive, emotional, and social skills needed to become resilient and contributing members of society.

The BGCCVI provides childcare, daycare, summer camps, teen and youth programs, family programs and parenting programs where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop the confidence and skills for life.  For instance two of our unique programs are the Teen Entrepreneurial Club and Dragon Boat Team.

The BGCCVI prides itself on being a person-centered organization.  Following the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (BGCC) directive, the four pillars – strong clubs, strong voice, strong community, and strong together – provide guidance for both the strategic planning and everyday activities.  Person-centered practices deliver the best possible service to the people they support through the talents and commitment of the dedicated staff who are informed, involved and whose voices are heard.

In June 2019, BGCCVI completed an application to move toward its Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) Accreditation.  Shared values and beliefs empowered and valued staff; individual and organizational learning as well as community partnerships provide the foundation of their person-centered focus, giving rise to opportunities for staff to influence decision-making during the organization’s strategic planning process.

Belonging to a Boys and Girls Club is a life-changing experience. Children and youth can build healthy, supportive relationships with caring adult role models, which in turn can positively influence the life path they choose. Clubs also encourage healthy, respectful relationships with peers and family members.  Each program has trained passionate and dedicated staff.  Staff members build self-esteem by empowering participants to help shape programs and share their ideas.  Through these opportunities children and youth are given the chance to develop life and leadership skills and learn how to contribute within their communities.

BGCCVI Mission Statement:

To provide a safe supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop the confidence and skills for life.

BGCCVI Vision Statement:

All children and youth discover and achieve their dreams and grow up to be healthy, successful and active participants in our community.

BGCCVI Core Values:

In our work with children, youth, families and communities, all Boys and Girls Clubs are guided by the following Core Values. These Core Values are the standard by which all Boys and Girls Club services are measured.

  • Belonging: We welcome everyone in a safe, accepting environment based on belonging and positive relationships.
  • Respect: We ensure that everyone – children, youth, families, volunteers, and staff – is heard, respected, valued and treated fairly.
  • Encouragement and Support: We encourage and support every child and youth to play, learn and grow to achieve their dreams.
  • Working Together: We work together with young people, families, volunteers, our communities and government.
